English as a Foreign Language

Today the English language is an undisputable asset for everyone. Our classes with international students create perfect educational environment to exclude students’ L1 (native language) and ensure their total immersion into English.
Education materials comprise texts and topics that make students want to speak. They are interesting for teenagers, thought-provoking and broaden students’ knowledge of history and culture of English-speaking countries. And it is absolutely not simplified to “London is the capital of Great Britain”. The topics range from acquainting with English gothic literature to investigating a Jack the Ripper case with police, from slavery to time travelling. After each unit students are given “le coin des curieux” – hyperlinks to different webpages to increase their curiosity about the subject.
What is important for us is to let the student work with the language. We teach them language skills and tools which help them to proceed in learning the language. For example, while working with a reading passage, students elicit its general idea; they scan it for details; try to guess the meaning of a new word from the context; determine key words in the passage. In order to improve their listening comprehension, they practice listening for details, listening for signpost words in the authentic speech. Reasoning their ideas is vital for their speaking and writing skills.
The programme allows students to work autonomously but they are also encouraged to work in pairs, take part in group discussions or have peer review of their paper works. This lets lower level students catch up with their counterparts and gives a chance to stronger students for extra practice.
