Host Country Study

Host Country Study (HCS) subject is a two years programme offered for overseas learners both in Primary and Secondary Schools. It provides students with a cross-cultural and language acquisition focus to develop an appreciation and understanding of the culture and language of the country in which they are located.

Host Country Study is a unique course and is designed to teach students with an introduction to host Kazakh language, history, culture, art and other spheres of Kazakhstan on general basis, taught by host nation teacher(s), as an essential experience of the Miras International School curriculum.

The most important part of practical lessons is an independent student’s work on the certain themes. Students will use their acquired skills in practice. The message of the programme to introduce learners with way of life of Kazakh people within different learning perspectives. There is a big educative role and meaning of Kazakh yurt with its ornamentation and decoration and Kazakh traditions and customs, shanyrak (family seat), impact of historical events on the country, Kazakh folk and modern music, Dance national art, and learning about great Kazakh/ and Kazakhstani people.

Students have integrated lessons in which they will get familiarized with oral folk arts and literature, Kazakh national art and geographical content of Kazakhstan. Students have an opportunity to study in Music, Dance, and Humanities rooms, SS library, ICT room, Kazakh language and literature room, and Concert Hall. Students develop basic Kazakh language speaking skills through listening perception, visualizing methods, glossary work, and communicating with local society.

Besides, due to offered themes, students have a possibility to travel around the city in order to attend a variety of National and Modern Museums, Art galleries, Kazakh Cultural Center, Presidential Center, National Library, special institutions, entertainment places, and other sightseeing in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.
